Research. Training. University-Business Collaboration
Training
Microelectronics training is one of the fundamental missions of the Chip Chair. The objective is twofold. On the one hand, to offer young undergraduate and master’s students the opportunity to enrich their knowledge in electronic design with new microelectronic design capabilities that will give them new opportunities in a sector in which a strong demand for specialized professionals is expected in the coming years as microelectronics becomes more established in Europe. On the other hand, to offer professionals in the sector the opportunity to retrain in this area in which a greater number of companies must identify new business models based on application-specific integrated circuits.
Research
The Chair is based on the research experience of the three Participating Groups. The Chair aims to take advantage of the synergies existing between the groups and channel their research activities towards the design of heterogeneous integrated systems. The Chair represents Cantabria’s contribution to the ‘Chips Act’ launched by the European Commission with the aim of ensuring European independence in this fundamental technology.
University-Business Collaboration
The Chair is, above all, a meeting point between companies and universities in the field of microelectronic design. The training and research effort represented by the Chair only makes sense if it provides competitive advantages to the sponsoring companies. Advantages based on successful business models supported by the technological capacity of direct access to silicon. The Chair is open to the incorporation of new companies, mainly from Cantabria, that see business opportunities in microelectronic design.
