CHIPS Made in Santander

«If you want to learn about the influence that the evolution of integrated circuits has had on the development of technology over the last 35 years, and the role that the University of Cantabria has played in it, we are going to reveal it to you in this talk. In addition, you will briefly learn about the evolution of communications, the relationship between the size of the equipment and the frequencies and how they are manufactured and what the chips are like, among other curiosities that will allow you to understand the current moment in which we live.»

Amparo Herrera Guardado has a PhD in Physical Sciences, specialising in Electronics, from the University of Cantabria (UC), where she currently heads the Department of Communications Engineering. She completed her doctoral thesis on microwave integrated circuits, a revolution at the time that made possible the development of mobile phones as we know them today. In her department, a set of integrated microcircuits was developed that are carried by nearly 50 percent of the satellites in orbit around the world. She belongs to the Laya My Steam Association, which disseminates examples of women who have worked in science and technology among young people.
